Eephus (dir. Carson Lund, 2024)
The first Emma Soup of the year. A lot of the reactions to this film, which takes place in real-ish time over the course of a community baseball game, sound like how I am prone to talk about sports. Nostalgia bitten, bright eyed, emotional about masculinity and dads and bearing witness to homosocial relationships while a team is working toward a goal. I love that stuff and I totally get why Eephus hits that note for so many people.
But when I wrote about The History of the Seattle Mariners (2020, dir. Jon Bois), I got a couple of comments that I think was probably in the back of my head while watching Eephus.
